First and foremost I would like to greet everyone, friends, folks, the entire Crimson Kyroz team, our imaginary fanclub, survivors of Ondoy and my late beloved dog (may he rest in peace), I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

I seem to always start out a blog entry by saying something like "It's been a long time, guys", but this time, I really mean it. Alas, this website's been dead for 5 months, slowly fading away from existence. We all assumed it wouldn't be long before the memory of it would be nothing but a figment of our imagination. "What the heck happened?", one might be moved to ask. Well, considering you were in Philippines during the days of September 26 onwards, or at least are not a Matrix geek completely disconnected from the real world, I believe this is a question that need not be answered.

So for those who got my drift and for the poor clueless minority, let me show you what we've been doing for the past 5 months in this comprehensive non-fiction footage:

Okay, so maybe we should've been doing more than playing with glowing balls of fire. Well we would've. If it wasn't for the "incident". I remember back last year when we were shooting back at UP. Whenever there was a little drizzle or the slightest droplet of rain, Michael would say, "There's gonna be a FLOOD!!!" and in his sheer panic would urge us to go home and have a nappy nappy. Of course, no one actually believed him at the time. We all thought he was bluffing, but on the dawn of September 26, we learned that we were wrong.

Told ya so.

The calamity had damaged basically everything in the house and most of our equipment, including the entire studio set and some of our props (water level was 7ft high and we didn't have a second floor). The computer at home was also destroyed, every component of it. But there was a survivor. By some miraculous act of divine intervention, the hard disk with all the Glitched files in it... survived!

OH hells no.

Luckily, the HDcam was at the Sony service center at the time, coz if it wasn't, it'd be a goner too. True, it was a disastrous day, but as long as the Hard disk and Videocam are alive, that's all we'll need.

Forrealz?

Yes. For real. So why haven't we been shooting? Well, there is something I need to take care of first. Restoration. Infrastructure. At times like these it's important for me to set my priorities and set them well, and right now my primary goal is to help restore the house and the business back to the way it was. Because of this I regret to say that I cannot invest on the production of the movie for the meantime.

So what's the plan yo?

Well the plan yo, is we sit back, relax and we think about it.

Hells yeah!

On the other hand, the ideal plan would be for us to save up, focus on scriptwriting and storyboarding and prepare for our return to glory. How? Well, I was thinking I should get a job as a motion graphics artist to help me earn some extra income. That should help us boost productivity and recover the equipment we've lost. So to help me in this hunt, I compiled a demo reel showcasing some of the best work we've done over the years

Cool.

It sure is. So while waiting for Eddie to get back from Bahrain this February, I'm gonna do some editing and a little script improvement while I'm at it. Also, while on my jobhunting quest I came across a cool video made by one of the local pinoy Visual effects company (The ones who made the Cobra commercial). The effects were almost Hollywood quality cool but their concept seems to have been ripped from Protoype, Matrix, 300, and a touch of Ghost in the Shell. Looks like pinoys are improving in quality but when it comes to originality? Uh-uh. Still, I would love to get a job in there. Alright, you guys better check it out.

Glitched Script 3rd Revision

Hey guys, I'm still taking a break, but there's been a lot of stuff going on my mind lately. I played Crisis Core and have been watching some movies to get new ideas . Needed a fresh source of concepts to give me a better vision of the movie and to know what we're really missing. And I think I'm beginning to figure it out... We're still missing that something that makes the movie complete. A missing piece of the puzzle. I won't tell you what it is, coz I haven't fully figured it out myself, but I'm working on it. Soon, I'm gonna be working on the 4th revision of the script. But wait, I haven't even posted the 3rd revision yet, since I felt it was incomplete. Anyway I'm posting the latest version of the script right now so you guys get to see what was new. The scene listing is also included which shows our total progress throughout the production.

Lemme give you a quick run behind the filming of each scene.

Scene 13 Reunited
Wow, scene 13 all over again. This time its a complete remake from the original script which was too straightforward. This new script went through 3 revisions before being put into play and filmed in a different location. Rehearsed the whole scene with Kat and Ed one day before the shoot. Filming was a breeze the next day, even without a storyboard. So what's happening in this scene? Well, if you haven't read the script then you may not have a clue. As you can see from the pics, Jenny is holding a Cobra baseball bat, then suddenly she's hugging Edward and then you see them having some kind of argument about stuff until finally ending up with Jenny crying on Edward's back. How melodramatic. Kat's getting even better at acting. All the drama & tension makes you wanna cry when you're on set *sniff* *sniff*. But wanna know what's even better than scene 13? Of course, scene 14!

Scene 14 Better than Scene 13
This scene is way cooler than Scene 13. No more baseball bats and hugs here but you get to see Edward & Jenny just sitting down on a bed and being sweet. How cute.

Scene 7j Jenny finds help
This is the part where Jenny gets home from the bridge, calls Edward, realizes he's in deep sh*t and tries to ask Steve for help. Just look at that oh-so-worried look on Jenny's face. So heartbreaking ='(

Scene 12b Alley brawl
Y'all know about this one. Leo's first intro/fight scene and it's finally complete. It took three days to film the scene excluding the rehearsals and we owe the Barangay captain of Guitnangbayan some thanks for not apprehending us for causing disturbance in the alley which was just opposite his house. Thank you capt'n.

Scene 3 & 5 Office scenes
Yay, its the office scene. This scene could take up around 20 minutes during the first part of the movie. And its a chance to introduce some of our new actors, Terrence and Jeimee, playing the boss and the secretary, respectively of course. We still don't have an actor for Brad, the coworker. Joel was supposed to play him but we didn't get enough time before his departure back to Dubai. Next candidate was Henry, but his 7 days in Manila wasn't enough to film all his parts, plus he wanted to be a cool action character. Awesome. So due to our lack of cast & time we were only able to film a short but significant part of the office scene. Had to close my shop till 12 noon just for that too.

Scene 11 The never-ending Gunman Battle
What? It's been one whole year and we're STILL filming the gunman scene? I mean, wow, this is like one of the longest scenes in the movie, its almost 15 minutes. The building we've been filming in has already been demolished and we're still not finished with this scene. All we're missing is just 2% more. Well at least I got most of these missing cuts before the place was destroyed.

Scene 5b Bathroom scene
Let's go with Edward and take a look at his bathroom scene. That sounded gay. No, he does not take a shower while naked, he just stands in front of the mirror doing stuff. This is where Edward first activates the console and discovers he has magical powers.

Scene 14b NPC Raid
This is the part right after Scene 14 when the NPCs storm Jenny's house in search for Edward. We were really (really) out of cast members so the NPCs and their commander had to be played by Eduardo, Sam & JE, who are all major characters in the story. As you can see, we just had to keep their faces well hidden :)

Scene 23 Final Battle
I have to admit, it's a little too early to start filming this and we were still highly unprepared for the scene. We had only a few days to choreograph the fight prior to filming, so when we got to location we didn't have everything planned out. We were also feeling a little lazy and wanted to go picture taking at the mountain with our cool costumes on so that took up some of our time. All in all we only had like 4 good cuts before the darkness of dawn covered the sky. Not too productive, but not a bad day for our last day of shoot. At least you guys get to see Edward's cool new shiny sword!

After our last day of shoot at the mountain, Ed started getting busy. So to make good use of our time, Angelo built a Dolly with track rails, for those smooth horizontal pans you see in movies. It turned out well and has been tried, tested and is now ready for use.

June 21, 2009 The Michael Day, all hell breaks loose
And so it had been foretold that Michael's inevitable return to Manila shall one day come. That day was June 21, and it is a day we shall all remember as the Michael Day. The real reason was... Henry had to come to Manila to arrange his passport or something and he decided to bring Michael along. For the first time in 7 years, AngHenyKenSter was reunited once again.

After our last day of shoot, Eduardo's supposed to be really busy with school and stuff so he won't be showing up for many months, but he did show up many times anyway, especially when Henry and Michael came. But after that he's gonna be hella busy now that it's his last sem, starting now all the way till October. Most likely we'll be ceasing 80% of our production schedules until November. So for these 4 months we'll be focusing on all scenes not involving Edward, which includes the Leo vs. Ethan battle, Ethan's revelation and other stuff. Not much to do for 4 months but at least I'll finally have time to edit everything we've been filming.

It's been hectic the past few weeks because of the shoot and now I'm busy taking care of the business, it's about time I give it some attention. In line with this, I'll be taking a few weeks off from the production so I could give attention to other priorities, plus a little relaxation. After that I'll have time for the movie and will start getting myself back up to full momentum.

Crimson Kyroz Night Swimming Party
Well, I already told y'all about this one. Now here's some pics to complement my previous entry. A lot of them were scandalous especially for us guys, so I won't be posting most of them. Especially not here. If you wanna see the other pics try checking out the friendster pages of Ed or the other members. Anyway, here's a handful of snaps for you guys.

May 13
The Taxi, Bridge and Baywalk shoot day
Yeah. I didn't know what to call it but it was one hell of a productive day. Not that we finished everything we planned to do but we did do alot. There were quite alot of us, which is nice and pleasing knowing that a lot of us are very active. Angelo, Sam, JE and his girlfriend all came to help. Ed and Kat of course, were the stars of the day for almost all scenes. First we went to Fairview and asked a manong driver to help us out with the taxi scene in exchange for a few bucks.

Next stop. Ayala Bridge, which happens to be in Manila, not Ayala. We started reshooting the entire Bridge scene for the 2nd life, which was first filmed just about a year ago. A lot has changed though, and I mean alot, including the actors and the place. But it'll work out fine. Trust me.

When the clock struck 3 we decided to skip the Bridge scene and catchup to the sunset at Baywalk, Roxas Boulevard. Arrived just in time to finish all shots for the Ending scene. Yep, we did it. Opening and ending scenes are now complete. Now all we have to worry about is everything in between.

May 14-16 Alley scene
First day, went to Eduardo's house and started choreographing the moves for the fightscene in Scene 12 when Leo encounters a gang of... ah, just read the script. Wouldn't wanna spoil stuff for others out there. Me, Ed and Angelo spent an all-nighter working on the fight choreography. On the same night we had to find 5 new guys to play the roles needed in the scene. With a little help from Joel, recruitment was a breeze.

Second day we started filming the first parts of the scene but the sun went down before we were satisfied with our shots so had to reschedule it another day.

Third day was pure rehearsals of the fight choreography. Practiced every move so we wouldn't cause much of a commotion at the alley during the actual shoot. Two cops approached us that other day saying there were reports that we were having a gangfight or something. Next time make sure they see the camera.

May 18
Bridge scene continued
Not as exciting as the May 13 shoot. Today there were only three of us. Me, Ed and Kat. The Tenacious Trio, or whatever. We were still able to shoot with just us three, plus my car was on coding so we had to commute too. Since we started very late (3:30) We weren't able to finish the shoot. But not bad. Not bad at all. Just one last trip to the bridge and we'll surely be done with that scene.

May 20-21
Jenny's room
On these days we're going to have the Jenny's room scene scheduled (Scene 13-14). Revision of the script is ongoing. Me and Angelo put a lot of effort on improving that scene's script that by now it's already at its fourth revision. Still more work to do with the script, storyboard and set design, and only two days to prepare for everything. Guess I better start now. Alright got a lot of work to do, sched's been hectic this whole month, but that's a good thing. Ain't nothing like the feeling of fulfilment knowing that the movie's gaining progress each and every day.

Greatest and longest blog ever

So many updates, so little time. I told you guys I'd be concentrating more on production and less on updates. Anyway, after almost 2 months, I think its about time I let the world know what we've been doing. How well you say? Better than ever. Alright, don't have much time so I'll make this quick.

March 18
Intramuros rehearsal
The purpose of this day was to rehearse the Leo vs. Ethan fightscene and to train Eduardo as a cameraman, since I'll be acting throughout that whole scene. Not much, these pics should give you an idea.

March 27
Rebuilding of the set and the harness pulley test
The studio had considerably changed since the first time we shot, which called for a few modifications to the studio. The floor was tiled now so we had to cover the whole house with gray vinyl flooring just to make it look like concrete. The wooden walls were repainted to the same effect. Filming was still hard considering we had airconditioning and controlled lighting allowing us to shoot 24 hours on any day. After some renovation, time to test our new harness. For the first volunteer, me. Results, well, we learned that climbing harnesses dont really work well for flying. It was a pain in the ass, well, actually in the crotch and chest too. Did a few tests, failed a few times, some of them painful. In the end we were able to use a working pulley system that allowed us to cast guys in the air. Fun.

March 29 to April 29 (that's a whole month)
Prison Scene - 90% Complete
Whew never knew this one would take that long. Prison scene started at March 29. It kinda takes more time and effort creating the set than shooting in it, but then again we never guessed that this scene would take a month to film. 15 days to be exact, we filmed around 3 days each week, sometimes more. Anyway at 90% I would say its almost fully complete since all it needs are the flashback scenes and other stuff to be filmed somewhere else. Ok, don't have much time to discuss all the details so I'll let the pictures do the talking:

After 1 month of filming its finally time to destroy the prison set, which in my opinion was and will be the hardest set to build and maintain throughout our production. Just keeping those bars straight was a pain in the ass. We had to use about half of the greenscreen paper just to cover each bar and make them look green. Ah well, I'm glad that's over with. Moving on.

May 4-6
Gunman Battle - 97% Complete
Last May 3 we had news that the Gunman area had already been purchased by an unknown bidder and it set to be demolished soon. So the day immediately after that we started shooting the long forgotten gunman fightscene.

Filming went on for three straight days, I didn't even care to celebrate my birthday. But eventually we did right after the last day of filming. We even planned to film the next day but we were already too drunk and tired to go on. Today (May 12), we planned to complete it 100% but I woke up late, so we'll need to shoot just a couple more shots and we're all done. But anyway, before that...

May 9
Crimson-Kyroz Night Swimming Party
Woohoo! Yay! So fun, so jolly, so... enchanting. Hehe a little exaggerated there but yeah, it was fun. Almost the whole crew, Me, Matt, Ed, Sam, Chris, Neil, Joel and Vanessa, the only babe in the group. We went to Noah's Park in Montalban, big resort, nice place, had fun till 7am. Its really sad that I don't have any pics to show you guys right now, but I will soon.

May 11
Edward's new sword.
Two of 'em too! Buster sword v3.0 Our third attempt to make a buster sword. Reason? First was too heavy, second was too fragile, so we needed something that is both lightweight and sturdy at the same time. That left me with one last option for its material. Aluminum. A buster sword made of 100% metal. Stronger and lighter than ever. This sword can handle any damage, slash or impact. Very shiny too. And with the help of a carpenter friend, we were even able to contruct a second sword which Edward can use for two-handed sword combos. You'll find some comparison pics between the new and old swords in the pics below. Pretty soon, you'll be seeing this shining new slasher in action.

Okay, I decided to postpone all editing until after May coz this month is the only time when Ed's totally free. After this month I can go full force, full time editing all the way till December or something like that. Right now, filming is our first priority above anything else. Scenes scheduled to be filmed this month are:

Anyway, in the unlikely case that we do finish all the scenes above, then we would already have finished 50% of the movie! Not a big figure for others out there but considering the time we've spent filming, this is a huge step forward in our production. I'm proud to say that these past two months have been the most productive ever. A big thanks to everyone who cooperated and helped me out through those stressful days. Thanks y'all. So, keepin the flow going, we're gonna have 3 major shoots tomorrow and on Thursday, all of which involving Jenny including the controversial Scene 14, which had been significantly reduced to PG-13. Hope everything goes well as planned. Everyone please pray real hard it won't rain tomorrow. Oh well, still got a lot of stuff to prepare, I'll update you guys soon on the next shoots. New goal, new perspective and a new studio

New goal. In every project you need a vision, and along with every vision comes a goal. I have envisioned a film, created entirely by independent non-professionals, students and amateurs, that will open the eyes of our film industry and forever change our standards for films and movies. It shall surpass the standards of Philippine television and debase the outdated pop culture brought about by the likes of Darna, Panday and Joaquin Bordado. It shall prove to the world that we, a small low-budget production team, can create something even greater than what large corporations had ever done, exceeding in concept, appeal and quality. Something never before seen in our nation. Something we'd be proud to show to the world. We're making history here people, let's start making it happen, today.

I have set our primary goal, now I'm setting a secondary. This 5th of May we are releasing an official trailer for the movie. I believe this is highly achievable, because my first goal back then was to release a trailer last May 2008, now a year has passed and I believe we're given more than enough time to make it happen this time around. We shall start filming new scenes which only existed previously as concepts and intangible ideas. This trailer shall be released on said date no matter what, and will serve as the greatest pitch we've made until the next official trailer. Isn't it just rewarding to watch a two-minute trailer showcasing the fruitfulness of our hard work and providing us a vision for the future? If you ask me that's enough to motivate me for a year. Now for the other new stuff.

New perspective. We've scouted and picked the location for the final battle. We found a good spot on the mountain with enough space and dynamic locations for a good battle, plus a cool bird's eye view of the skyline including Ortigas, Makati, Quezon City and pretty much half of the entire Metro Manila. Here's some pics:

New perspective not only stands for a new point of view but also a new lens for our camera. Finally, after months of searching, I finally found and bought a wide angle lens for my Sony HDcam! Now we can have those cool wide perspective shots you see in movies. I'm so happy ^_^

Now about that new studio... It's not actually about a new studio, but about a new greenroom I'm building inside our studio. Bought a chroma green backdrop, 9 feet wide and 36 feet(!) long. Long enough to fill the entire length of the room, buy two of these, and we have enough to cover the walls and ceilings. Now all we need is a harness and some wires, and we're free to fly! ...

That's all I can share for now. Right now I've got a lot of ideas in my mind and once I connect the dots its time to put them on paper. While Ed's busy with exams I'll be making full use of my time making preparations. Full blast production will resume starting from the 28th of March. I'll be seeing you guys then!

Last Thursday I went to the World Trade Center to attend the *see ad below*

so yeah, attended the Short Film seminars and learned quite a few tips. Among the speakers were the directors of the indie film "Ploning". Don't know if you guys heard about that movie, but the director gave some pretty inspiring words of wisdom. Some things I learned are that it doesn't matter what you start with, as long as you don't give up, you're surely headed for success. Anyway the seminar was just one of the two reasons why I attended. The other reason would be networking. Yup, to meet new people whom I can invite to join our production. Gave out a few calling cards with my contact details and the address to this website. Since I'll be expecting new visitors on our blogspot, I'm going to repost our preview vid as well as the fightscene from Encounter Shot, our first attempt in making a short film. Hope this helps convince more members to join our team and boost production :)

The Prison Scene & the Construction of the Set

This blog was supposed to come way before the hiking post, but I was too tired and busy to write a blog entry worthy enough to narrate that hectic and very labor intensive week. It all started on February 15. Angelo arrived here as planned to help me out with the construction of the set, but contrary to what we both hoped, we had to build the set from scratch, that's S-C-R-A-T-C-H. Yeah. I was hoping I'd have started on the set by that time but I was too busy with business too. So the next day, we bought the materials and worked on the set all night, till the next morning actually, and hell it was tiring. We barely even made one wall. Not as easy as we thought. Not easy at all. It's only been one day and I already know that we'll be running out of time. I guess the only one who's got what it takes to do a carpenter's job right is, well... a carpenter!

So the next two days we continued working on the set with the help of a professional carpenter. And during the nights we continued to work overtime, having only 3-4 hours of sleep and lots and lots of Cobra energy drinks (the now Official energy drink of Crimson-Kyroz Productions).The day finally came when Ed was scheduled for the shoot but with us having completed only 70% of the set. Woke up as early as we could and resumed construction. The time came that Ed and Sam arrived at the unfinished set so they ended up helping us complete it.

By 6pm we were finally setting up the chroma colored laser bars, just enough time to start shooting by 8, which left us only 1 hour for filming with Ed. We were only able to film a few cuts but it was worth it. We kinda ran out of time for the script revision, rehearsal and choreography so we accomplished what we can with whatever time & consciousness we had left. The next day we continued filming and this time, we've got Lester with us. It was around 3am before we got to start, and due to physical stress, fatigue, severe lack of sleep and possible cobra overdose, we didn't get to shoot for long. And finally, on the last day, arrived the day which came to be known as the Legendary Mountain Hiking Trip of AngHenyKenSter.

And here are some VFX test shots I've been working on. This is like my 6th version of the laser bars (the previous ones sucked) and I'm still working on improving it. You see its not just the editing itself that takes time, it's the creation, the innovation of your own effects in After Effects. It could take a dozen trials of innovating from hundreds of possibilities just to get one effect right. Well, just wanted to share that thought with you guys. Anyhow, got to get back to work. AngHenyKenSter Goes Mountain Hiking

Okay... I know... you guys are thinking, "What does this have to do with the movie?". Well, I don't have any other blogspot to post these pics on and besides, this is a pretty interesting entry. It started when we decided to climb the mountains of San Mateo, the great Sierra Madre. We were determined to reach the top. So we gathered ourselves, packed a supply of food and drinks and set off on our adventure. We even brought some weapons along just in case we have any encounters while on our RPG trip. And to give us even more motivation, we bought a box of pizza and made a pact not to eat it until we reach the very top. Very tempting though.

Oh, and by the way, this is the same mountain where we will be shooting the final battle in the movie. Another thing you might be wondering is how Henry became part of the hiking. Well, he wasn't physically there but he was with us in spirit. We even brought his picture along so he could be part of our pictorials. I'm proud to present the very first Crimson-Kyroz wallpaper and T-shirt design. I designed this shirt just a few hours before our shoot last Feb 11 and fortunately it turned out pretty... grungy. Yeah. Just the way I visualized it. However none of the characters actually look like their real-life counterparts but at least the costumes complete the characters. I didn't draw the sketches, I only colorized them, and even if I did I don't think it would turn out any better, but it's good enough for now. Throughout the production I'm planning to release promotional posters and wallpapers of the various characters of Glitched. For now all I can share with you is a personalized T-shirt in your own name and screenname (which you can grab on any of our upcoming shoots), and a wallpaper to put some inspiration on your well-cherished desktops.

Ending Scene Shoot Day 1

Remember my last post about our upcoming shoot on Feb 11 and how cool and awesome it's gonna be? Well, I guess that was a bit of an overstatement. Feb 11 was a shoot day as planned, although it's not one I'm very proud of. Scheduled locations for that day were Regalado, Ayala Bridge and Baywalk. 1st scene went ok. 2nd was cancelled due to time constrainsts and the last (and supposedly most significant) was incomplete partly due to my lack of preparation. In short we missed the sunset and we'll have to go back another day. Argh, I hate it when that happens. I had so much in mind for that day. Probably too much that it would've been impossible to have shot everything in one day anyway. At least we had a short photo shoot after the filming session. Our guest photographer dat day was Jet Bentulan, a friend of a friend of a friend. So it's good news that I have some pics to show you guys for today's blog. And there's better news on the brighter side of this story, we have officially launched the official Crimson Kyroz Productions T-shirt, free of charge to all members, cast and crew. So what are you waiting for? Shirts will be distributed on our next shoots, so you guys better come along next time and grab one! Here's a snap of the team in uniform.

Leo's Gauntlet Completed

Here we are with yet another weapon for the movie's extraordinary characters. This time it's for Leo, and instead of a sword like Edward's and Ethan's, Leo's character weilds a gauntlet. So what does it do? I dunno, but I think it should help him do super strong punches and fire pink giant laser beams or something. We'll figure it out. In the meantime, here are some sample shots of me and my new toy.

Okay, now about our production schedules. Sometime between February 15-19 we'll be shooting the prison scenes involving Angelo as "the Hacker" and Matt as the NPC Commander. This will be filmed on set in our new studio near my house, which means I should be working on the set soon. But before that, this Wednesday (that's Feb 11) we'll be shooting the rest of the scenes at Ayala Bridge (Manila) and the ending scene at Baywalk (Roxas Blvd). Wuh? Forreal? The ending scene so soon? Well, why not? It isn't too hard a scene to shoot and besides, once we finish this we'll be having a feeling of closure about the movie. You know, that sense of finality knowing that we've started this movie and we're done with the end. All we need to do now is to fill the spaces in between (which is actually the hard part). So anyway, to anyone who's free on Wednesday, feel free to come along and stand witness to the movie's most conclusive scene ever. The End. This is goin' to be fun =D

More work & less updates

I'm about to give an announcement that will change the purpose and significance of this website.
I will no longer be posting regular periodic updates about the movie's production. Instead, I will concentrate more of my time working on filming, storyboards and editing and less time for blogging. I will still be posting summarized updates every once or twice a month, but don't expect any more of the flashy screenshots and photos. I'm hoping this decision will help the movie turn out to be more productive.

Anyway, a summary of activities done this January. January 2 and 3 went well with the gunman fightscene and NPC encounter. The meeting did NOT happen on January 4 though. However we were able to have a short rehearsal on January 11 with Terence and JE, the new guy for Ethan (whom I never got to introduce in this website). January 14 we practiced some choreography at Intramuros and on January 22 we filmed the cafeteria conversation scene with Steve and Ethan at Eastwood City, Libis. We filmed from 11 to 5pm until the stupid guard prohibited us from shooting not realizing that we've already been shooting for 6 hours right in front of him. We finished 90% of it and will be going back there tomorrow to complete a few missing scenes. Screw the guard. For the next months I have prepared a blank schedule for Feb and March designed to consider Ed's schedule at school. Still needs to be filled up though.

Okay, I know I promised everyone to be posting updates about the past few weeks. Truth is, I've just been busy and I still am. About our new members, I'll have to blog about them some other time. We'll be meeting up once again this Saturday to give a full blast on post-production editing. So what's been up? Well, from January 4 to 10, none of our plans on the schedule were actually fulfilled. Why? I'm not really sure but it seems that most members are starting to be busy again. So on January 11 I called some members for a rehearsal. Only Ed was able to come along with two of the new guys, Terence and JE. Enough to have a rehearsal of most of the movie's dialogues. It went pretty well, now we've filled up the role for Edward's boss at the office. All we need now is Edward's coworker, the Hacker, the 7th glitcher, and the Guitar Slinger.

Yesterday, we went to Intramuros with Ed and JE for a rehearsal. We needed a nice place to sit down, meditate and visualize to come up with ideas for the fightscenes. The place we went to was in fact the location for the Leo vs. Ethan fightscene so it helps being at the place while thinking of moves and choreography. On the way there we stopped by Tutuban to buy Ethan's costume. And while we're at it, me and Ed bought ourselves some new "costumes" as well. I'll post the pics next week. As for the rehearsal it went great, we came up with almost an entire fightscene that day, just need to connect the pieces, come up with more actions, draw the storyboards and practice the moves. For next week, I still haven't managed the schedules of the cast, scenes and locations but I have a few things in mind. So here's what we might be up to:

So many updates, so little time

There's been so much going on lately that I've been too busy to even blog about it. Schedules have went pretty well, although not exactly as planned. Productivity close to its peak once again. We've had four days of shooting since December 29, made good use of the holidays. Now let me start by summarizing each shoot one day at a time.

December 29 - Gunman Battle - Up close and personal

The first gunman shoot we had in four months. It's been awhile and much has changed including the place which was really messed up. Started the day by cleaning up and then proceeded to shoot alotta scenes involving both Edward and the gunman.

December 30 - Gunman Battle - Edward's scenes

Today Adan was busy with New Year and stuff so me and Ed made use of the day by shooting all gunman battle scenes involving him and him alone. Not a bad day.

January 2 - Gunman Battle - Dual handgun face-off

It's a happy new year so let's start out by having a productive shooting day. Today we weren't alone, Sam, JE and Vanessa came along to help out too. JE by the way is gonna be the new Ethan, he's the guy by the pillar in the pic above. I'll make a post about the 3 new members sometime soon. We filmed from 10 to 1pm and after that we went out to buy a costume for Ethan. After searching St. Francis' Square and some Ukay-ukay's we didn't get to find a suitable costume so I guess we'll need to search more some other day.

January 3 - NPC Encounter

The first NPC shoot in a long long time. Sadly, unlike the previous shoots, cast and crew were very few. We got to the place by 10 in the morning. No students were around. No noise was heard, no passerby seen. Everything was plain peace and quiet. Too quiet. So quiet that we all fell lazy and wanted to just lie down, relax, pat ourselves in the back and call it a day. That's what happens when... uh... stuff happens. So after gathering a little energy and an ounce of motivation, we finally got up and shot a few action scenes. Dhan, Sam and Vanessa were present. It wasn't long before everyone got even more tired and lazy that we had to leave by 3pm to have our well-deserved and long anticipated nappy-nappy in the comfort of our homes. Now where did I hear that word?

Lot's more new stuff going on but too busy to blog. I'll update you guys next time, but right now, gotta go!

Basically our priority is the NPC Battle at UP. Whenever more than 3 crew members are available along with Edward, Ethan, Jenny and/or NPC commander, we should definitely shoot the NPC Encounter scene at UP and try to finish as much of it as we can. This is one of the longest scenes in the movie and one with alot of action, hence the difficulty of the shooting.

On Jan. 4 (Sunday) I'm planning a general meeting & rehearsal involving most, if not all of our members at our new very own studio (near my house). I'd like to introduce our newest members (3 of 'em) and rehearse a number of scenes that are next on our filming list (alot of them). Finally we can have our final casting now that we've got some new members and probably fill up all those missing holes in our cast of characters. People who I'm hoping would surely be there to practice their roles are:

and the new guy for Ethan
and of course everyone's presence is of vital significance. The more complete we are the better. Plus, I didn't get to give you guys our giveaway Crimson-Kyroz pocket calendars last Tuesday so make sure you're there next Sunday to grab one ;) Now you see, these schedules are tentative, and depends on everyone's availability, we can have the meeting on Saturday or Monday depending on you guys. As for Monday to Wednesday, we shoot whichever scene we can depending on the availability of the actors. So I guess I'll be seeing you then, oh, and by the way, Merry Christmas team! Updates: What's new and coming up?

So what else is up? Well, we've got a new cast member, and he'll be playing Ethan (awesome!). So that's one stone out of our path, and here's more: We're gonna have two new recruits, a graphic artist and a photographer. The graphics guy got captivated by our works and is willing to help us throughout the whole production. He's already starting to study After Effects so he can help me edit the whole movie! I'll be introducing him along with the other new guys on the next blog. As for the photographer guy, he's also willing to help me out full time with directing and cinematography. And the best part is, it's for free :) Cool eh? Just when I thought the world was on our shoulders, two angels come down from heaven to give us a helping hand. Stay tuned, more to come!

Glitched Script 100% Complete!

Not that it's perfect already, but at least we reached the end. This version will be the closest to what will be our final draft of the script. There won't be any more major changes to the story from now on. Still, this script will need alot of improvement. After reading it you may notice that Leo, Ethan and the Hacker's lines sound like they were spoken by just one guy. Well, that's coz they were written by one guy. The only reliable way to create unique distinct characters is to have different people write their lines. So to be able to do that, I'm requesting any contributors, or even the character's actor himself, to internalize his own unique character and rewrite his lines in his own words. I know that would take a while but it'll be worth it. As for everyone else, please read the script and send me your comments, suggestions and any violent reactions. Be the critic as if you were watching the movie. All comments will be beneficial to the further improvement of the script so feel free to speak your mind. Thanks everyone.

Oh, and by the way, we're gonna have a mini-major meeting this Monday at my place. Around afternoon, I'll text everyone regarding the time. I know everyone's busy these days but if you're free on that day please try to come. We're gonna have another casting session with some new recruits and finalizing everyone's roles. We'll also be discussing everyone's schedules. Now that the script is finished, filming sessions from now on will be more prepared than ever, so I need everyone's cooperation to keep things productive. See ya'll on Monday!

Let's all take a moment to reflect

Time is moving fast. Things haven't been going according to plan lately, although we are being quite productive. I think the graveyard scene we've been shooting lately will actually be the first scene we're gonna complete. That's out of an estimated total of 28 scenes that make up the entire movie. And after all our hard work we are so close to finishing just about 0.9 scenes. Hehe. Okay, so I'm writing this blog to give everyone a fresh new perspective on things we've done, things we're doing and things to come. In other words, lets take a moment to reflect on our production in general. So, how are things going lately?

All major roles had been filled in. A lot of props and costumes were set. Most of the crew members had free time. Everything was going according to plan. Production was at its peak. But just before we got to the top, we began to fall. We lost another member, and now Ethan's role is empty. Christmas is approaching and now everyone's starting to get busy. Four of our members are graduating and their scheds are busier than ever. Michael's leaving so that's minus another member and no more cameraman for the scenes involving my role.

Overall, we have gone 9 months into production and we're barely at 10% of the movie.

And so it all comes down to a point where we will be asking ourselves the question, "Can we really make it?". Just like every game has an option that let's you choose between "Continue" and "Game Over", we are faced with a very similar dilemma. So let me start by giving my opinion on this matter. My answer to this question is "Yes, we can do it. But only if we're all in this together".

To help the production recover to its previous, efficient state, I am once again calling out to all our members and supporters for assistance. I have revised our solicitation letter which states our goals and needs, as well as our contact information and web address. Please feel free to download it below:

Please support the production by helping spread out this letter. In this letter, we, as a production, are asking for financial assistance, human resources and support. Aside from editors and crew members, what we need most right now are actors. Male actors. There are so many scenes which were already so ready for shooting, all that's missing are the actors. Below is a list of all the roles that are still open.

Brad (Edward's Coworker)

The sooner we fill this list, the faster we can produce the movie. The production does not depend entirely on Ed's availability, we could be shooting scenes involving the other characters and double the production speed. But to do this, we need to complete the cast and have more crew members. About the, ehem, financial support, I hate to ask but this is a time when I need your help the most. I've spent a fairly large amount on the movie's funds these past months and I'm sorry to say that I've given all I can. I'm all out. We'll need another source of funds to continue production. I would really appreciate it if you guys can help me fund the movie or at least help spread out our solicitation letters so we can save up on resources.

Right now all I can promise everyone is my time. All I can give. Starting this month I shall concentrate all my free time on completing the script, reviewing and rewriting it twice over to create the best story imaginable. I shall work on the storyboards and prepare everything from scene 1 to 28 so that all will be set every time we shoot. I shall complete all necessary props, costumes and weapons even if it means fabricating everything myself. I shall construct our greenscreen studio and setup all equipment. In short, I shall dedicate all I can to do everything that still needs to be done.

But our biggest problem now is what used to be our biggest problem since the production began. Ethan. Several people tried the role, Dave, Dhan and even myself. But none of the attempts were fruitful. Now that the role is open again, we'll need someone to fill it in, and fast. As soon as we have an actor for Ethan again, we can continue the production at full blast. Guys, everyone, anyone! Please find our Ethan!!! Even if it means he will be the only member to have a talent fee. We need him more than anything else.

And to end this reasonably lengthy weblog entry, I'd like to leave you all with my word that all of this will not be in vain. Rome wasn't built in one day, nor did Edison invent the light bulb in one try. Success takes time. As long as we choose the "Continue" over the "Game Over" button, someday, we shall ultimately succeed. *bow*

Graveyard shoot Day 4

Lately, the schedule of the shoots and locations weren't going exactly as planned. However, we made good use of our time. Monday was supposed to be NPC battle at UP while everyone's free thanks to the holiday. The only one who wasn't was, regrettably, Ed. Tuesday was graveyard scene as planned. We only had two hours of filming time but luckily it went pretty well. Not a bad day, not bad at all. Last Sunday we were supposed to shoot the Jenny's room scene but then Kat had a taping with Star Cinema. Well, I wouldn't object to that, actors get paid alot there, while in our production everyone has to do it for free ;) That's what makes us indie right? So since she wasn't free we prepared to shoot the gunman scene. Just when we were setting up the set on Sunday morning, Adan suddenly had an errand and had to leave. So we were left with no choice but to shoot the graveyard scene instead.

As for today, we had planned to shoot the NPC encounter, but due to everyone's unavailability, we were left with no choice but to shoot the scene we've been shooting the most. Yep, the graveyard scene once again. And so today we went to shoot what would most probably be our last filming session for this year. Looks like everyone's starting to get busy again, and pretty soon, Christmas is coming. So if any of you are free during the 1 week of vacation we have after Christmas, please let me know. We'll need to make the most of whatever time we have. I got alot of stuff to discuss with you guys and I'll be posting it in tomorrow's blog.

Scene 19 - At the Graveyard

This was the scene where the shoots have been so unproductive that they weren't even worth blogging about... yet. It's the scene where Edward heads off from the hospital and meets Leo somewhere down the road, and they have a nice chat about a lot of stuff. Leo explains pretty much everything about the book, NPCs, the creeds, the glitchers and Ethan. This scene was shot last Thursday and once again last Sunday. Both sessions lasted less than an hour, both due to the rain. On the first day, it rained hard before we got to location and we couldn't find a spot which was both dry and sunny, so we ended up making it a rehearsal day instead, practicing our lines, acting and stuff. On Sunday we went back to UP, but this time it was raining WHILE we were shooting, which made things worse although we were able to get a few shots anyways. Well, there was a funny part, when Michael tried placing our tombstone prop right along a pathway where a lot of people usually pass. They were freakin' scared wondering why there would be someone buried right there. The girls were like staring at it saying,"Wtf? Who the hell is that buried right in the middle of UP? That's just creepy!" (But in tagalog of course). The name reads "Leonardo S. Ramirez, 1937-1986", a name I made up a few days back. The funny thing was, it wasn't until Vanessa came along that we learned that there was actually a prof in UP named Leonardo Ramirez. Heh, creepy coincidence. So, today we're going back there, to shoot the same scene, at the same location, with the same people, and I certainly hope we don't get the same weather. Oh well, I hope today's gonna be a productive day. Wish us luck!

Scene 13 Return to Jenny's house

November the 23rd, the date was set for Scene 13, the part where Edward rushes to find Jenny in her house right after he got out the NPC prison and escaped a deadly fate with the gunman. We met up by 2pm, and arrived on location at Kristine's house by 3pm. Not quite as planned, but we were able to shoot a few scenes before the sun went down. And right after it did, things didn't go too well anymore. Anyway, I selected Kristine's house 'cause its a pretty spacious room and it already looks like a girl's room. Imagine how Jenny's room would like if I tried renovating my room with girlie stuff. That would suck. So I chose her house and brought along a bunch of fluorescent tubes for lighting.

So how'd it all go? Well, I honestly thought we would finish the scene on that day. But we ran out of time and we'll have to go back there next Sunday, hopefully with around 3 crew members. It took some time and alot of retakes trying to get the hugging part, due to some, ehem, awkward moments trying to get the acting right. Must be tough being an actor. After a number of takes we got some of the scenes down and it was getting late so we called it a day. Next shoot will be on Wednesday again, NPC shoot at UP. Calltime will be on 7am once again. This time we'll try to finish most of the UP scenes, so I hope we can make the most of that day. Better stock up on Gatorade and energy drinks.

NPC Encounter Shoot Day 3 - No escape

November 19. Another Wednesday, another NPC shoot at UP. This time we were really short on both cast and crew but we gotta make the most of what we've got... so that's exactly what we did. Only a few people were able to come, but just enough to make 4 NPCs. Dhan & Vanessa also played the NPCs role this time to make up for the lack of characters, but as you can see in the After Effects rendered screenshot to your left, it worked out pretty well, if you know what I mean ;). The filming session started really late this time, partly due to minor mix-ups with schedules and most of the cast being busy/tired and all. It was already past 2pm when we arrived at UP, and shooting started quarter to 3, but for a two and a half hour filming session, I'd say we did a pretty excellent job. Not too many seconds of movietime if that's what you're asking but hey, we're able to slowly fill up the storyboard one scene at a time. That's all for now, we'll be doing the same scene next Wednesday, most hopefully with majority of the cast including Matt, Kat and Dhan. Hope you guys ain't busy by then, I'll really need you all this time. See yah.

NPC Encounter Shoot Day 2 - Edward & Jenny's Escape

November the 12th, Wednesday. One pretty productive day. Shooting time didn't start according to plan, instead of arriving at UP by 8am, we reached there around 9:30. We headed to UP on a two vehicle convoy, on Ed's car and mine. The scene to be filmed was still Scene 12 of the script, Edward and Jenny's escape and NPC encounter. We started filming around 10am.

Give me the key or else...
12pm was lunchtime, This time around, we had everything prepared including water, energy drinks and food, so we didn't have to go far just to eat. Proceeded with the shoot after eating. We filmed part of the scenes involving Ethan, but right after that, everyone was already tired so we called it a day. Shoot ended by 4pm.

So how bout we look back on how well things went that day. Well, first of all, nearly the entire Crimson-Kyroz crew was present, and I'm very proud of that. Thank you all for coming. Although I'm dissapointed that I wasn't able to shoot as much scenes as I wanted to. I was thinking we could finish all the scenes involving Matt, Dhan and Kat on that day coz it's very rare that the crew was so complete. But as we have learned, you can never do too much in just one day, even if we had all the energy. Filming is really a time-consuming task which requires determination and patience.

Anyway all went well. I'll be reviewing the shots later in the evening, so for now, feast your eyes on our behind the scenes photos and a few screenshots. Next shoot will be on this Sunday, and depending on everyone's availability, we might be shooting the same scene again. Gotta go now, so I'll just update you guys again soon.

As much as possible we need 5 guys, and I'll be expecting Neil, Chris & Joesam at the very least. Vanessa will be around but only in the morning. Try to bring some more friends so we can have some extras. Calltime will be at 7 am at my house, we need to start early coz Matt's only available till 10:30 or before.

For the Thursday shoot, this is still tentative as we need to complete the script as well as Leo's costume. We'll need at least one extra crew member (to hold the boom mic & stuff).

The Sunday shoot is pretty much confirmed. We can do the rehearsal on the same day. Calltime will be 12pm at my house, that should include Edward & Kat. After a little rehearsal we head off to Kristine's house in Cubao to shoot the scene.

To give everyone an idea of the scenes to be filmed, I STRONGLY suggest you read the updated script at the specific scene. For the actors, this is a must, and I suggest you start practicing your lines (if you have any) early on. Here is the latest revision of the script:

Scene 15 "NPC Encounter" Shoot Day 1

Everything was set. Guns, swords, costumes, and a whole production crew. All we lacked was preparation. Well, you can blame that on me, I'll discuss that later. For now, I'll write a summary of the happenings last Friday, November the 7th. It was our first day of shooting a scene involving NPCs, and I'm very glad almost everyone was able to come. It was actually the first time that more than half of the crew were together on the same filming day! We set off early morning and headed to UP for location shooting. Everyone got dressed and when we started filming, it didn't go quite as smoothly as I hoped. Also broke a few props including the buster sword, M4 & Sig Rifle, now under repair. Everything was great, the weather was perfect and the cast was quite complete, but like I said earlier, all we lacked was preparation... or maybe I lacked it. Here goes the story the day before that:

November the 6th, Thursday. I woke up early morning and set off to Marikina Riverbanks to scout and confirm the location. As I have observed, there were guards patrolling the riverbanks, and they were on bike too. I didn't care to ask if it was ok to shoot so I decided we should find another location. In the evening we checked out Timberland Heights in San Mateo but the area wasn't suitable for the scene either. So at the very last minute I decided to head to UP and, accompanied by Vanessa, looked for a good spot to film the picture I had in mind. We found a suitable location with no guards to disturb us and not too much people passing by. It was set. Got home late at night where I had two options on what I should work on. A) Screenwriting for the shooting B) Edward's substitute "lightweight" buster sword. I thought option B would be important so I decided to go for it. But I didn't think it would take me all night to complete that 2nd sword. So by 7am the next morning I still sat there sleepless, still finishing the sword while everyone was gathered and ready. I was so embarassed in front of you guys. (Translation: Nahiya talaga ako sa inyo noon, ang aga ko kayo pinapunta tapos ako ung hindi ready). If only I had chosen Option A I would have had 5 hours to prepare the entire scene including direction, choreography plus a little sleep. I still deeply regret not being to make the most of such a beautiful day.

And for that mistake I owe everyone an apology and indeed I am very sorry to each of you guys. The next time I tell you guys to come early I'll make sure everything's set and ready to go by the time you guys get here. It's always been that way every shoot except for this one. Everyone's lack of food, sleep and hydration also added to the decrease in productivity. So in preparation for the succeeding shoots I would like to give out a few announcements:
From now on, (during distant location shoots only)
1) Extra breakfast for those who hadn't eaten yet will be prepared and packed by me on filming days that start in the morning in the form of eggs and bread. Does not apply for halfday shoots.
2) Lunch will also be prepared in a pot along with rice and paper plates and spoons for everyone. Members may select from this menu: Maling luncheon meat, Purefoods luncheon meat or Argentina luncheon meat. More to come soon!
3) Water will be provided in a large gallon container enough for everyone throughout the day.
4) Ice will also be brought in a cooler, you guys might wanna add some cola :)
5) If you need energy drinks or extra stuff for the day, buy it early or the night before. E.g. Cobra, cigs, etc.
6) Come early, the shoot is always as late as the last guy, but never as early as the first guy, so consider everyone's punctuality and don't have us wait.
7) Wash your own costume policy. You can leave the vests, masks & gloves to me.
8) Oh, and try not to break any more props, we don't have much more :(

The reason why I'm preparing lunch is so that we wont have to pack up and return to location for lunch breaks. That way we can save some time and noone will feel lazy to repack, redress and return to location. Like they say, keep the flow going. So, now to wrap things up with a few last lines.

Ultimately, don't take my dissapointment too seriously. All in all, it was a really good day for a first shoot as a team, and I'd like to congratulate each and everyone for that. Good job guys and keep it up! You had more energy than I could ever give out, keep it up and I'll make sure we're all headed for the best!

New NPC Costumes

Bought new costumes for the NPCs. 5 sets of them. Consists of vests, accessory belt, helmet, masks and gloves. You guys should provide your own black jeans, black t-shirt and leather shoes. Here are some test pics with me and Jerome as models.

BY THE WAY, we will have shooting sessions starting tomorrow (that's Wednesday) all the way till Saturday, so I'm hoping everyone can come. And bring some friends too, we'll need as many guys (that means males) as we can for the NPCs and crew members. Gals are also welcome as long as they're willing to dress up as soldiers and walk like men. To all NPC actors please provide your own black jeans, shirt and leather shoes. Please try to borrow if you don't have any, we'll need at least 5 sets of everything. Tomorrow we start rehearsing and by Thursday we might be filming on location at Riverbanks, Marikina. Edward's Sword Completed

It started out with an idea, and ended up as a really really big buster sword. Presenting the latest addition to our arsenal, Edward's sword. Took us a week and a half to complete this new hybrid of a sword.

Working with wood was much harder than it looks. Designing the blade to be large and light at the same time was difficult enough. It ended up pretty "o.k." and light enough to carry with a single hand. It was a work of art, from the sword's handle to the tip of the blade, despite some mistakes we encountered through the process. We tried not to make it look too much like its from "Final Fantasy 7" or something. Anyway here are a few shots of the finalized sword.

One new weapon added to our Arsenal today. Ethan's double-edged sword. Bought the sword at Mumbaki in Sta. Lucia. Here are a few pics:

It's long, strong and razor sharp, quite deadly so I made waivers for everyone to sign :) Hehe just kidding, don't worry we'll be replacing the steel with aluminum for the fightscenes so nobody gets hurt... dat much. Now we have only 3 weapons left to go. Edward's sword, Leo's gauntlet and the Guitar Slinger's uh... guitar. Well, still got lots of work to do, I'll be updating you guys again tomorrow. See yah.

Sembreak time! Glitched Script and Production Update

We've been working on the rewrite of the script for quite sometime now and I'm glad that we're at 50% (again). Actually, we already reached that 50% before but this time its a whole lot better. Lots more plot devices, interesting scenes, meaningful conversations & more character development. Ok, so without further ado, I re-present to you the partial Glitched script version 2.0. Expect this to be a lot better than the first draft. Not to worry, no need for retakes of the scenes we already shot, except for a few scenes lacking expression. So anyway, its sembreak and this was the time when we all had planned to shoot full blast with full cast & crew. We haven't started anything yet but we will soon, I'm preparing one of the scenes already. Since these two weeks of sembreak is the only time when everyone's free, we must prioritize the scenes which require the most people, let's say, the NPC encounters. So, in line with this, I propose to have the following scene shot by next week (If you don't know who some of the characters are, try reading the plot)

SCENE 12
EXT. PLAZA - EVENING
CHARACTERS: EDWARD, LEO, ETHAN, JENNY, NPC COMMANDER, NPCS

After traveling a distance, a large explosion blasts off in their path. After the smoke clears, they are surrounded by NPCs. Edward summons his sword.

EDWARD Jenny, find some place to hide.
EDWARD Go! It’s me they want not you, now go!
JENNY Okay.
EDWARD Run!
The NPC Commander appears, leading the squad.
NPC COMMANDER Surrender yourself, convict, or we shall be forced to use violent measures.

Edward fends off some of the soldiers, but their number is too great for him to handle. As they continue to surround him, a powerful blast drives most of the soldiers away. Ethan shows up in front of them, in an elevated position.

ETHAN A fascinating display of power, however so immature. Ah, commander, quite a pleasure seeing you here.
NPC COMMANDER You. Thanks for saving us the trouble of finding you. All units open fire!

Ethan quickly rushes to where Jenny was hiding and holds her by the neck as hostage. He threatens to stab her with his sword.

EDWARD Jenny!
NPC COMMANDER Hold your fire!
ETHAN Hehehe. Just as I thought. Your sympathy is what makes you weak.
EDWARD Let her go! She has nothing to do with this.

Edward tries to step forward but the NPCs oppose him from moving. He clenches his fist in rage.

NPC COMMANDER What do you want?
ETHAN The boy holds something of value to me. Kid, hand over the sphere and your beloved damsel goes free.
Edward remembers about the sphere the Gunman had given him.
ETHAN You know what I’m talking about. You’ve been given one, haven’t you?
NPC COMMANDER Alpha, secure that sphere, don’t let him get his hands on it.

Edward brings out the sphere, and without hesitation throws it to Ethan before the NPCs were able to grab it. Ethan grabs the sphere. He does not keep his word and stabs Jenny anyway, then throwing her body down. Edward exclaims in shock.

NPC COMMANDER Dammit! Open fire! All units open fire! Don’t let him get away!

Before long, Ethan had already disappeared in the mist. Edward bursts out in rage and pushes away all the NPCs surrounding him. The other NPCs open fire at him as he tries to run to Jenny. He blocks their bullets with his sword whilst hacking and slashing everyone in his way. He drops his sword halfway along the way. Before he gets to reach Jenny, several men surround his side, beating him up with the back of their rifles, while another soldier points a gun to his forehead from the front. He is helpless and desperate. He no longer fears the rifle pointed at his head or the guns of the men surrounding him. Just then, a man walks into the scene and towards them. He takes the soldier in front of Edward, grabs him by the neck and blasts him away with his gauntlet, damaging other NPCs behind Edward as well. It was Leo, the renegade vigilante. The NPCs let go of Edward and turn their attention to Leo. Edward falls to his knees in exhaustion. He can barely crawl to where Jenny lies.

LEO Where’d he go? Where’d Ethan go?
EDWARD He… got away.
LEO Damn.
Leo walks past Edward and towards the squadrons of soldiers facing him.
LEO I’ll take care of this.
NPC COMMANDER Get him!

The NPCs open fire as Leo walks calmly towards the middle of the squadron. All bullets passed right through him, his wounds healing instantly. He was invincible to the soldier’s guns whose bullets proved futile. After the soldiers empty their clip, Leo cocks his gauntlet and does a thrusting attack towards the soldiers. The NPCs are taken down one by one, using only his fists and legs. Edward tries desperately to crawl towards Jenny’s dying body with whatever strength he has left. Leo, while fighting, grabs Edward’s dropped sword from the ground and swings it towards the enemies, spinning around in an orbit and slicing through soldiers while he beats up the other men with his fists (AKA Roundtrip). He finishes off the last man in the squad just in time to grab the boomeranging sword which he strikes back into the ground.

NPC COMMANDER Fallback! All teams fallback!

Edward finally reaches Jenny and takes her in his arms. He looks deep into her eyes before they slowly close. The commander gathers what’s left of his team and retreats back to base. The wounds all over Leo’s body start to heal until he is perfectly healthy again.

As much as I want to have this scene shot as soon as possible, we have a huge amount of prerequisites before it can even be started:

Edward, Ethan and Leo must have their costumes as well as their weapons
(Broadsword, buster sword & gauntlet, respectively. Estimated to cost around P5000)
At least 5 NPCs must have their costumes (A total of P6750 for 5 guys)

Aside from that, we'll need a little kung-fu and a load of fighting spirit. Please be prepared guys. I'll contact everyone as soon as we're set.

Plot Rewrite v2.0

So like we said, we were working on a rewrite of the movie's plot, adding lots of elements and removing unnecessary ones. We realized that this was a necessary step, and we might have taken it for granted for the past months, making the movie's development quite disorganized. Movies usually take two or three years just scriptwriting. They like hire two or more scriptwriters, scrap a couple of scripts, demand several rewrites, scrap more scripts, hire new writers to rewrite the script, scrap more draft scripts, until they come up with a final draft which is developed through years of critical analysis, and uh... a lot of rejected scripts. So there, it takes more than just one guy and one month to create a good story, that's why we're gonna have a rewrite of the entire script as well, one by me, and the other by Michael, and we combine both. So anyway, here's a copy of the rewritten plot v2.0.

We've all been a little stale for months now. Shooting has been reduce before to 3 shoots a month, to now a mere zero. But with that, we have more time to rethink, our goals, storyline, characters, etc. Last night we visited a friend of ours. With that we've made some new characters, and deleted some characters. Build our storyline into a more solid basis, etc. For all who does not know. Let me introduce a new character to our story.

Leo - Another one of the "glitched" characters. Somewhat similar to our hero Edward. Revenge against Ethan was his motivating force. His path crosses with Edward's, but he makes use of aggression and brute force to achieve his goal rather than strategical thinking.

I'm sorry about the movie's production being delayed for weeks, I've just been really busy. Anyway I'm proud to announce that the new Crimson Shot branch has officially been opened this Saturday and the new studio will be opened next Saturday hopefully. I'm taking photography lessons right now which I need for operating the studio and I guess it will be useful for the movie as well. So don't worry guys if you feel like the movie's coming to an end, we were just getting started. Hope is coming our way... soon :)

Financial Statement for August 2008

Well, we didn't really spend anything for this month. We didn't need much for this month's shoot and my business isn't really in a financially abundant state since I'm opening up a new shop this September. Crimson Shot's first ever branch, and guess what, this one comes with a complete studio, which will be very helpful for our movie. Almost all greenscreen shoots can now be shot in our very own studio, and the best part about it is we can shoot any day, any time we want. Spent alot on studio lights and a professional DSLR camera so I wasn't able to contribute for the movie this month.

Wow, it feels like its only been a few weeks but its already been another month? So at the end of each month comes the time when we look back at our past 30 days and ask ourselves, "How well have you done lately?" Well, not exactly a very productive month for July... Most of the cast and crew were busy, some quit... We were only able to shoot 3 times this month, and none of them were as productive as some of June's shootings but hey, we were able to release a teaser video, so guess that's a milestone :) But don't let that get you down guys, we still have a few months till 2009, and with everyone's full support we can get this done in no time at all (+ 7 months) ;P trust me, we will... Ayt, hope to see you guys more often next month! Peace out!

The Most Significant Update Ever Posted In This Blog: Gunman Battle Sneak Peak Video!!!

Finally! Just as I promised, I am hereby honored to present to you the first official video released on this weblog, the Gunman sneak peak video! This is an excerpt from the Gunman boss battle and showcases the quality of effects used in our movie. At least to give you guys an idea of how good the movie's gonna look :) So without much further ado, I now present to you the long awaited Glitched preview clip No. 001: Enjoy!

So how'd you guys like it? Oh, and I just want to inform you that this is just a draft edit of what's going to be the final output. Sound effects and music were done in a hurry so forgive me if they suck, we'll fix that in the final version. And the glitched logo was just a sample, still not sure what font we're gonna use. Well, there are some details which I really worked hard on. Here are some of the interesting ones:
Every gunshot comes with simulated lighting on the character's face and the surroundings.
Some gunshots have a computer generated shell ejecting from the barrel.
All skies in the movie are artificial.

Aside from those details there are some others and all in all this two minute clip took two months just to edit. (tough job eh?) Well, there's no time to waste. Time is running and the movie's release date is approaching, so let's give it all we've got. Full time, full effort and full support! Well... can't expect too much from everyone since most of you are busy. Inadvertently since it's also my job to keep everyone's spirits high, I intend to release a preview video every month so that everyone gets a taste of what's to come. That should give you guys just enough motivation to continue to work full force on this production ;)

Production speed is constantly slowing down and we need to do something about it. Several gunman shooting sessions have been postponed due to lack of crew and unavailability of the gunman actor. In lieu of this, we are working on another scene to be prepared for shoot this week and the following week. The office scene of Edward has been moved from Budgetlane to the new Crimson Shot branch in ampid. That should give us full control over our shooting conditions and schedule. Also a studio has been built in this new shop which will be useful for some of our scenes especially the greenscreen shots. But for now we'll concentrate on completing the scenes located at Edward's office. Well, hope you guys enjoyed this post and found it as an inspiring source of motivation for this project. Gunman Fightscene Day 9

Day 9?! What happened to day 8? Well that was the shoot day never spoken of. Day 8 was last Tuesday and I was too tired, busy and lazy to blog. It was a pretty productive day, although I don't have any interesting pics or screenshots to show for that day. Gunman Fightscene is going beyond 50% so Congrats to all our staff for completing 5% of our movie (hooray!). As for Day 9 (that would be today) we shot a few solo scenes involving Edward, we wanted to make more out of the day but that was all we could shoot with just Ed. All other scenes from now on will involve the Gunman, so he MUST be there the next shoots.

By the way I got a bad news, and a bad news :( First, Adan's got a job now so he's only gonna be free on Sundays. And the other bad news is someone's gonna buy the site where we're shooting the Gunman scene. Well, that's not sure yet but we sure haveta finish the gunman scene as soon as possible. We're gonna start working on the next scenes so that we can make the most of our shoot days even without Adan. I'll update you guys on what we're gonna be working on next. It's most likely gonna be the office scene with Edward. Well guys, I've got a long week working on the editing so imma get back to it now so I could show you guys some clips soon. See yah!

A new editor, co-director and all-around guy, Jan Michael L. Apelo

For those of you who know him, this guy needs no introduction. But for those of you who don't, beware... Hehe. So this guy, Michael as we call him, came all the way from iloilo just to work with us on the movie for three months or so. Since he's got no class, no work, and no other responsibilities, I gave him quite a number of duties on the movie. First as a codirector, to think of ideas, dialogues, actions, camera angles, etc. Second as an editor, both video editor and visual effects, so during his first few weeks here I'll be teaching him everything I know, which will make editing twice as fast, or maybe more. And also as an all around crew member, since he's got the most time on his hands among any other Crimson Kyroz member. He'll be staying in my house for the next months so he'll be a great help anytime can give full time on video editing too. That should speed everything up and make life easier for me as well. Also, he'll be in charge of updating the blogs from time to time so expect him to be the author of some of the upcoming blogs. By the way the shoots last Monday and Tuesday were postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions but lets look forward to a good weather this coming week. In other news, Adan, the gunman dude is reported to have been finding a job, so once he's working he'll only be available for shooting once a week or so. That means we really have to work faster and finish the gunman shoots as soon as possible. Poll for August: "Movie release: HD or SD?"

Last month we had a poll regarding the language for the movie's script. And the winner of the poll is *drum roll*... English!
So I guess we'll have the entire script written in English then, at least it'll have a lot more consistency than Taglish. So as for this month I'd like to ask you guys whether you want the movie's quality to be in HD (High-Definition, or if SD (DVD quality) will be good enough.

Here's a quick comparison of HD and SD
HD- Resolution: 1920x1080p, Media: Blu-ray, HD-DVD
SD- Resolution: 720x480i, Media: DVD

Which means that basically HD is alot clearer but can only be appreciated if you have a 50-inch+ HDTV or a 22-inch+ LCD monitor and either a Blu-ray player or a modified PS3. So, still wanna put in the extra effort and quality for our high-def viewers? Or shall we keep our level of quality in line the masses?

Gunman Fightscene Day 6

Day 6 of the Gunman fightscene today just as planned. Sadly, even though only me and Ed was available today, we have to push through with the shooting. But with only one actor, no crew members, and a big storm just yesterday, its expected that today wouldn't go so well. Ain't that right? Well guess what, today was one of the most productive days of the movie's production.

Well it was cloudy and all but the lighting was just perfect (even better than those hot sunny days), the wind was cool and it didn't even rain during our shoot hours. We had a full blast shooting from 8am all the way till 6pm. And good thing Adan caught up around 3pm so we were able to shoot his scenes as well while Ed went for a nap.

One long tiring but very productive day. In fact everything went so well that by now we were able to complete around 40% of the Gunman Fightscene. Probably more, but I'll have to see about that. I estimate we'll be done with this scene after two weeks and by then we'll be moving on to either completing the office scene at Budgetlane or the museum scene at UP. So be prepared guys and see yah next month for the next shoots.

Wake Up Scene - Edward's Room

"Hey! What happened to the gunman scene you guys are supposed to be shooting?" Don't worry we'll still shoot it... tomorrow. But as for today we had to substitute the gunman fight for another scene that's indoors, thanks to the weather forecasts on TV. Well they said it's gonna rain hard today, but as we observed it didn't rain from 9 to 5pm, which is the scheduled time for shooting the gunman scene, so we might as well have shot it. But taking precautions based on the news, we decided to shoot an indoor scene instead. That would be the reshoot of Edward's wake up scene at his home. Now I know you guys know that we already filmed this part, but we had to do it again, partly because Ed cut his hair and it looks different from how it was last May (hey its been 2.5 months). Well, at least we didn't waste the day. Finished all the scenes in Ed's bedroom, which means we're one step closer to the movie's ultimate completion on 2009. It's not much progress but it IS progress, so be happy :) Wholeday shoot day for me & Ed tomorrow, and I don't think anyone else is free on a Tuesday, so I guess I'll be seeing you guys next week then.

Gunman Fightscene Day 5

Yet another day of filming for the gunman fightscene, and yet another day full of unexpected situations. Very unexpected at that. First of all the shoot was scheduled at 7am and I was supposed to be staying up all night doing some editing & waiting for the break of dawn. But as it turned out that morning I found myself waking up on my bed past 8am with Eduardo calling out my gate. Must've fallen asleep somehow... Hmm... Good thing Ed woke up early. Anyway after getting ready we went to the location along with Dave to start filming when Ed's mom called on my phone. Now it turns out that his mom's flight was on the same day and he was supposed to go home in about an hour or so. So much for the scheduled wholeday fliming huh, but anyway we were able to shoot quite a number of scenes before Ed left. Dave left soon after Ed so I went back to the site, where Adan showed up around 3pm. We at least had a few minutes to shoot before the rain started pouring. Anyway, noone to blame for these unexpected events (except for my alarm clock probably). My advice to all cast and crew for the next shoots: "Expect the unexpected" and uh... be prepared for it too ;)

Gunman Fightscene Day 4

Yesterday we filmed some of the Gunman's solo scenes of the Gunman battle. Filming took place from 12pm till 4:45. We would've tried doing a little more but unfortunately the gatling gun broke. Well Adan was on the second floor of the building with the gatling gun sticking out and when he fired it, the barrel spinned right off the gun and straight to the ground. Nice way for the gunman to be defeated right? Hehe. I'll have to fix that for next shoot though. Better make sure all our props are in good condition before filming again. So how did we get the gatling gun to spin without any electrical outlet? Well first we connected the power drill inside the gun's body through a wire that runs through the ammunition chain and into the backpack, which holds a (very) heavy 500 Watt UPS. Not a bad idea for portable power eh? Adan had to bear with the heavy weight though. Better be prepared for next shoot :) See yah guys on Friday!

A Week of Filming Delay

It's been a week without any updates at all... You guys maybe wondering, "Has the movie been cancelled?", "Did everyone quit?", "Did Kenneth finally give up his childish fantasies of making a stupid full length movie?". Well the answer is NO. Nothing's changed, and noone's giving up. We're just having a little delay due to the busy scheds of our cast members, and no thanks to storm Helen either. Well, now that the storm has passed and that you guys are done with your prelims, I hope we'll all be having lots of time to shoot again :) Yup. As for Ed, bad news is he wont be able to have a shoot this week. The good news is, he'll be free from Friday all the way to Monday. So we better prepare and make the most of those four days of pure shooting. Seriously, we really need to make the most of our time each day. For Friday, I'm counting on Dave to assist us 8am onwards. Saturday, I'm counting on Chris and anyone else who can come early. Sunday, I'll be expecting most guys to be available. And as for Monday I'm counting on Jerome and Vanessa. Hope you guys can make it on sched and on time. Oh, and by the way, we WILL be having a shoot this Monday (wholeday). Just the gunman scenes with Adan, I'll need some help with that. See yah peepz.

Gunman Fightscene... Day 3.5?

Yesterday we started shooting the gunman's part in the gunman battle scene. Shooting didn't go according to sched due to the unavailability of crew members. Basically most members are unavailable during Saturday morning, which is a good time to start a shoot while the sun's shining bright. Keep in mind that most of our shoots rely on sunlight so we have to start as early as possible and make the most out of the day. So as for yesterday, let's just say the shoot didn't go according to plan and the weather didn't help either, so we filmed roughly 5 seconds of the movie.
Also, I'm blogging to inform everyone that Eduardo won't be able to shoot tomorrow, that's Monday. Since it's prelim week for him and most other schools I guess we might as well take the week off. Adan will inform me Monday morning if he's available. If ever that's so, we proceed with shooting the Gunman's scenes. I'll be texting you guys early Monday morning on that, so all available crew please standby. See yah.

Gunman Fightscene Day 3

It's been two weeks since Day 1 of the gunman shoot. Progress so far is still at around 15% but hey, I'd say so far so good! About now I have just about enough footage to start the editing phase. I'll be posting a sneak peak video as soon as I've edited some significant portion of the fightscene. Shoot started at 12:30 and ended 4:30. Luckily (again) the weather's been really kind to us. It didn't rain and it gave us just the right amount of sunlight we needed for the shoot. For the next shoots though we should start as early as possible. 7 or 8 am would be nice so as to make the most of the day's sunlight, but that's up to the cast's availability. Next session would be on one of the weekdays this week, most probably Friday. We'll be shooting most of the gunman's solo scenes. Next shoot with Edward would be either Sunday or Monday. I'll update you guys on the sched as soon as I have it confirmed. Till then, ta ta...

Hello fellow members and welcome back to our beloved website. Monthly we will be having a poll for a question relevant to the movie. This will help me in making decisions regarding minor and major matters about the movie. This way I can get everyone's opinion even without having a meeting. As you can see to the right of the page, there is a voting area and a question above. Monthly I will be posting different questions that need to be decided on by the group. This month's question is whether we choose to shoot the entire movie in pure English? Or we mix a pinch of Taglish to the script. During the early stages of the production, we translated part of the script to Tagalog, to make it easier for some of the actors of the characters speaking. But now since we are able to fill in the roles with cast members who are willing to have all their lines in English, we might as well have the whole script in English. It would be kinda nice to have a constant language throughout the movie instead of switching between two. So what do you guys think? A role for a new cast member

Recently, on day 1 of the gunman shoot, Dave was able to come along and help out. For those of you who don't know Dave, here:

After more than a year of being away, he's back and he's willing to help out with the movie. Not just as a crew member but also as an actor. He had attended an acting workshop sometime ago, so it'd be a great help if he could fill in one of the roles. For now, the major open role is for Steve's character. But if he could fill in for Ethan's role, dat would also be great. Honestly, there aren't many people whom I trust Ethan's role with, especially coz I wanna make sure his character gets the personality and dialogues right. But I think Dave can pull this one off. His English is good and he looks pretty evil enough. So, what role should we give Dave? Steve or Ethan? I'll leave that up to you guys. Gunman Props 100% Complete

Yep. you read it, that's right! 100%. Just kidding, its more like 90%. Anyway I just finished two of the gunman's most powerful weapons. The dual Desert Eagles, and the all powerful Gatling Gun! The desert eagles were really hard to paint, considering the material didn't go well with acrylic paint, but the shiny chrome plating was a really nice touch. Would've looked plain plastic without it. As for the gatling gun, I finally redesigned the metal casing to be more stable and it is now fully functional and ready to rip!

Gunman Fightscene Day 2

I'm sorry for the delay of this post. Day 2 of the gunman shoot was last Monday, 3-5pm. Reason for the delay was that my landline's broken since yesterday and I couldn't go online so I had to go to the computer shop. Shooting was fine, except for a few misfortunes during the day. That day we learned that rain is bad for the sand, and Eduardo learned how physically challenging the shooting can be. I salute his courage :) Pretty productive day if you ask me. I'd say around 15% of the gunman fightscene. I just wanna remind you guys that filming will REALLY take this long, so don't get discouraged if we don't get much done during the day. That's how it was with the first movie. But hell, after all those tiring days, it was successful right? So will this as long as we all keep our spirits high =).

That was quite a lot for one month. However we could've done more with a little more cash. Right now half of the gunman fight scene is on pending because we need to buy his dual Desert Eagles, which cost 500 each. And one of the Berettas broke... which is a bad thing. Either have it replaced by warranty or we'll have to buy a new one.

Gunman Fightscene Day 1

Yesterday was day 1 for the gunman fightscene. We started off as early as 7am, proceeded to location and fixed up the area. It was pretty much just me and Adan, Ed came around 9:30, and it took us 5 hours to clean the whole area from what used to look like a desolated wasteland. Then we bought 1 truckful of sand and scattered it throughout the place to make a perfect gunfight area. After 7 hours of cleanup we were finally able to shoot a few scenes for the gunman fight. Pretty productive for a normal shooting day, good thing the weather cooperated well. Day 2 of the shoot will be on Monday, next shoot after that would be on July. I'll update u guys on our schedule. We're still having trouble finding someone to fill the role of Steve. In case anyone's interested, here's a little description of the character and a piece of his script.

Steve - Edward's bestfriend. They were childhood buddies since highschool, and now they work in the same company but in different departments. He is the optimistic and motivated kind of guy, always having a good way of looking at things. Whenever Edwards gets discouraged he always cheers him up and gives him encouragement. He's been like a big brother to Edward whenever it comes to giving him advice and encouragement. In the company, he works in the chemicals department and he has a pretty vast knowledge on explosives. In some parts, he also helps out during Edward's encounters with enemies. He eventually dies somewhere towards the end, and gives Edward his last words of encouragement before he says goodbye.

A few excerpts of Steve's lines:

Steve: Dude, relax. Maybe you just caught Sir Matt in a bad mood. Don’t worry too much, we can still work things out. Hmm... How about this… We go talk to Sir Matt later, you apologize nicely and maybe we can convince him into giving you another chance. Yeah, that’s it! So what do you think?

Steve: Power isn't always about winning. Sometimes, it's about sacrifice. When you go through struggles and decide not to surrender, that is power.
